Anti-polygamy activist hails jail sentences in Bountiful case

The founder of an anti-polygamy group says she’s very satisfied with the outcome of a child bride case.

Two Bountiful residents are going to jail for taking their 13-year-old daughter across the border to be married.

Nancy Mereska of the Stop Polygamy in Canada movement says the sentence sends the right message.

Brandon Blackmore received a year in jail and Emily Ruth Gail Blackmore received seven months. Both were also sentenced to 18 months probation.

Mereska was once married to a mainstream Mormon with relatives in Bountiful.

Although she lives in Alberta she attended the entire trial in Cranbrook.
