UPDATED: Bountiful residents jailed in child bride case

Two Bountiful residents convicted of removing a girl from Canada for sexual purposes will serve jail time.

BC Supreme Court judge Paul Pearlman sentenced Brandon James Blackmore to a year in jail and his ex-wife Emily Ruth Gail Blackmore to seven months.

Both were also given 18 months probation and taken out of the courtroom in handcuffs.

Judge Paul Pearlman said the objectives of the sentence were to denounce the activity and deter any other members of the FLDS community from committing similar offences.

The sentences are on the lower end of the range that the Crown prosecutor asked for, but spokesman Dan McLaughlin says they’re satisfied.
