The US Fire Service is very grateful for the arrival of 33 BC ground crew and some heavy equipment to deal with the north east flank of the Stickpin fire.
The fire is around 5km from the border now.
Public Information Officer Alan Hoffmeister says US crews have so many areas to cover their resources are very stretched.
He says all the smoke has grounded the helicopters they have at their disposal and there will also be high demand for BC fire-fighting aircraft once the skies clear.
Meanwhile structural fire fighters have been identifying homes that could be threatened if the fire reaches Canada.
