Invasive mussels removed from boat

The Central Kootenay Invasive Species Society are reminding boaters to make sure they visit one of the many watercraft inspection sites in the area before getting into any lakes or rivers.

This after a boat was found to be infested with zebra mussels during a routine inspection.

It is mandatory for anyone carrying a watercraft to stop at an inspection station within BC.

Officials note there are 28 sampling stations in the Kootenays including Kootenay Lake, Arrow Lake, Slocan Lake, the Columbia River among others.

The boat carrying the muscles was decontaminated.

Boaters should clean off all plant materials before launching any watercraft into another body of water.
