Burning embers prompt evacuation alerts

Evacuation alerts have been issued in the Boundary regarding the Stickpin Wildfire burning south of the border.

The fire is still about 4.5km away.

Some of the areas in Grand Forks and Christina Lake are being handed alerts because the wind is expected to get up in the coming days.

That could potentially push burning embers across the border and into very dry areas.

Here’s the RDKB’s Alan Stanley.

The evacuation alerts affect rural Area D, south of the Kettle River and south of the City of Grand Forks.

Also near Christina Lake, the Ponderosa and Cascade part of rural Area C are under evacuation alert.

Special sprinkler units are being deployed.

There are no evacuation orders at this stage.
