The Lower Kootenay Band has decided the fate of St. Peter’s church in a referendum.
The church will be dismantled and a monument will be erected to commemorate it.
The land will be used for a new health centre for the community planned for spring 2018.
Band leader Jason Louie says it wasn’t an easy decision but it’s necessary.
The new health center will house a dietician, a diabetic nurse and an RN.
Previously they were working out of a renovated house in the community.
