The Valhalla Wilderness Society says more steps are needed to save South Selkirk caribou.

The government has installed a maternity pen east of Ymir to reduce the calves’ exposure to predators.

But director Craig Pettitt says that’s not enough.

Pettit also says a reduced speed limit through part of the Kootenay Pass would help.

The herd is down to about a dozen.
