UPDATED: Blackmore’s court challenge adjourned

The matter of two Bountiful men challenging their convictions of practicing polygamy has been adjourned until next month.

TheĀ appeal by Winston Blackmore and James Oler was expected to start in a Cranbrook courtroom this morning.

However, special Crown prosecutor Peter Wilson asked the hearing be pushed back after he received new evidence from defense lawyer Blair Suffredine.

Wilson told the courtroom it was “unfair” for him to proceed after receiving an amended affidavit last night.

He suggested there’s been a series of unmet deadlines and late filingsĀ by Suffredine throughout the proceedings.

Wilson said this is an important case and in 35 year career he’s never cross-examined someone without proper preparation.

In a landmark decision in July, Blackmore and Oler were both found guilty of having multiple wives.

The case has been schedule to return to courtĀ Dec. 12 to 14.
