CRESTON VETERAN AWARDED FRENCH MEDAL OF HONOUR

Creston’s Ralph Heald is being awarded the French Medal of Honor

Heald fought in World War II, serving with the 119 Bomber Squadron and the 143 Wing, 439 Squadron, 2nd TAF in Canada and all over Europe.

He trained with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Calgary, and Lachine, Quebec before attending wireless school in Montreal at 18.

Heald is being presented with the French Medal of Honor on Saturday at Creston’s Remembrance Day Ceremony. He is being recognized for his personal involvement in the liberation of France and for serving during the Invasion of Normandy.

He says he was right behind the line of fire all the way across Europe.
