Creston Residents Concerned About Rises in Municipal Taxes

The proposed tax increase for building a new fire hall in Creston is concerning to some citizens.

They worry that the tax hike will be too high, and especially effect those living in a fixed income household.

Mayor Ron Toyota says he understands the concerns.

He says the council will look closely at the 2018 budget as the referendum goes through.

The Committee for an Affordable Fire hall isn’t convinced. They would like to delay the referendum to 2018.

They say the delay would give the town more time to come up with alternative and less expensive options.

Myrna Johnson, committee head, says they should use land the town already owns to build the new hall.

The referendum vote is on Dec. 9. There will be advanced voting on Nov. 22nd and the 29.
