Local politician aghast at report from the Auditor General

Kootenay-Columbia MP Wayne Stetski is not impressed with a report that says Canada Revenue Agency blocks over 50 percent of calls from taxpayers.

This according to a recent report released by the Auditor General of Canada.

Blocking a call means giving the caller a busy signal, a message to go to the website or to call back later.

Stetski says there is an under-staffing problem in federal agencies.

He says his office receives calls looking for help navigating the complicated tax system when they can’t get through to the CRA.

Stetski says this problem particularly impacts Canadians looking for information about their old-age pensions.

The report also said that even when a caller reaches someone 30 percent of the information they’re given is wrong.
