Creston council will delay decision to change garbage pickup payment

The Town of Creston will look at options for garbage pickup payment next summer.

Council is considering taking the payment for waste collection off of property taxes and adding it to a
utilities bill.

The change was first brought up in a 2016 proposal.

Director of Corporate Services Steffan Klassen says this would address the problem of residents who don’t use garbage pickup

He says this would also offer more flexibility on things like recycling programs and private garbage pickup.

Klassen lists some of the possible benefits for residents.

He says 5.6 percent of taxation would be shifted to utilities.

Council will look again at the proposal for the 2019 budget.
