The Regional District of Central Kootenay is working on sustainable living practices and hoping Creston will come on board.
The Community Sustainable Living Advisory committee is focusing its efforts on affordable housing, energy efficiency, and food system development for the town.
Coordinator Paris Smith says the town will look at adding the committee into the 2018 budget.
Fourteen of 20 regional district directors participate in the service.
The Committee focuses on affordable housing by making housing more energy efficient — effectively lowering utility bills.
Smith says they’ve seen benefits in housing affordability in other municipalities.
The Committee also focuses on climate adaptation and water services.
