Creston council working to preserve BC lake quality

Creston town council agreed to draft a letter of support to prevent quagga and zebra mussels in BC waters.

The District of Sicamous is looking for support in monitoring boats that come from out-of-province.

Quagga and Zebra Mussels have been shown to have damaging effects on ecological environments in other provinces.

BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan are the only provinces that don’t have mussel infestations.

Sicamous councillor Colleen Anderson says shes looking for funding.

She says the mussels could have several negative effects.

Creston council agreed this was a problem that should be prevented, they will send a letter to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy.

Currently BC inspects watercraft’s at the Alberta and U.S. borders.
