Creston residents can expect to see their 2018 property assessments this week

BC assessment shows property value in Creston has increased for 2018.

A typical home went from $232,000 to $252,000 – a 7.8% increase.

Executive director of the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce David Hull says this doesn’t necessarily mean a large hike in property taxes.

He says a large increase in taxes will only occur if your personal assessment doesn’t fall within the towns average.

He encourages residents to check their personal assessment to see if they fall within the average range.

Elsewhere, Nelson saw a 9.3% increase going from $378,000 to $413,000, Cranbrook a 3.5% increase.

Kimberley had a 6% increase going from $251,000 to $266,000 and the Village of Kaslo went from $230,000 to $241,000.
