A Select Committee may be the next step for Creston firehall

Creston town council is considering creating a select committee for the firehall.

Town staff have begun the process by requesting direction from council to create a communication and consultation strategy.

In a written statement Mayor Ron Toyota said:

‘Staff will be bringing a report to council on next steps which includes establishment of a Select Committee and the development of a communication and consultation strategy.  The town intends to revisit the options for meeting the legislated and regulatory requirements to provide for adequate facilities from which our fire department can operate. The Town of Creston will undertake next steps with the best interest of our firefighters and our community being the key priority.’

Select committees are typically composed of council members, staff and the public.

The town has utilised similar committees twice recently – one to develop the Official Community Plan and another for town cemetery’s.
