The Lower Kootenay Band is entering the Creston business community.
The Band has purchased Morris Flowers, both the downtown shop and the Erickson greenhouse, from Pat Fleck and Lloyd Morris.
At an announcement on Friday, Band Leader Jason Louie said they are excited to be the new kids on the block and grateful to have Fleck and Morris as mentors during the transition.
He adds they’ll take what they’ve learned during the purchase of the Ainsworth Hot Springs to apply it to the transition
The current staff will stay on in their positions –Jen Comer will step in as manager.
The flower shop on Canyon Street opened in 1953, purchased by the Morris family from Roger Moore.
Since then it has grown to be one of the longest standing businesses in the community.
Fleck and Morris congratulated Louie on the purchase, saying they are excited and nervous about retirement.
Fleck added the sale is good for the Lower Kootenay Band, the shop’s staff, and the community. Morris is looking forward to seeing the business continue to expand under new leadership.
Louie said the purchase is also an important step towards becoming a self-sufficient community.
Louie presented Fleck and Morris with a Sweet Grass Braid as a gift to commemorate the transition – the braid represents a clearing of the mind and heart.
