Residents fighting to keep Creston Education Centre open

A local politician is asking for more time to keep the Creston Education Centre open.

East shore director Garry Jackman and West Creston director Tanya Wall appealed to Kootenay Lake school board Chair Lenora Trenaman at a recent parents meeting.

Jackman says there is no urgency to close the centre and the school district should re-evaluate their facilities plan.

He adds the RDCK along with an ad hoc group from Creston would like to negotiate to keep it open.

He’s hoping board trustees Heather Suttie and Cory Beebee who were present at the meeting will take the request back to the board.

The potential building plan that would house Homelinks and Wildflower programs were handed out at the meeting – they were met with anger and disappointment from parents.

Jackman says the community should continue to resist the move.

The two programs would be moved to a building on PCSS property across the highway from the 7/11.

The education centre is set to close in June.
