Large group gathers to protest the closure of the Creston Education Centre

Over 50 people gathered to protest the closure of the Creston Education Centre Friday afternoon.

Parents, grandparents, students and recent grads stood in front of school board building on 16th ave and Canyon Street holding signs and shouting save CEC.

Parents Advisory Committee President Barbara Koehoorn says they started planning the protest a few weeks ago.

The group elicited honks from passing cars in support of the effort.

Koehoorn says closing the centre would be detrimental to the programs that use it and the community. A group of parents will head to Nelson on March 13th to continue the protest.

She says they’ll gather in front of the school district office in the morning and attend the district meeting later in the day. The Homelinks group will be giving a presentation outlining their concerns and offering details about how the program works.
