Grizzly bears in the area are waking up and Wildsight BC wants to make people aware of our affect on them.
They’ll be facilitating a talk with grizzly bear biologist Clayton Lamb. Wildsight’s Eddie Petryshyn says grizzlies are historically apex predators.
Lamb has been working with a research team for several years investigating the relationship between bears and human land use in BC. He will present two of his case studies: The Effects of Habitat Quality, Road Density and Access Management, and The Impacts of High Mortality and Attractive Food Resources on Bear Populations. Petryshyn says the event is a chance for people to learn about those different factors that affect grizzlies.
Petryshyn says even small things like fruit trees and not securing garbage can have a major impact on the grizzly bear population. Things like road density is a larger problem affecting connectivity.
The talk is at the College of the Rockies Lecture Theatre April 4th at 7 pm.
