RCMP kept busy with calls to local businesses

Creston RCMP responded to a variety of calls last week according to S/Sgt. Ryan Currie:

April 10, 2018

  • Police were kept busy with traffic enforcement involving two collisions and one suspended driver who was caught driving.
  • Another reported single vehicle collision resulted in the driver being charged with impaired driving after the police found the intoxicated individual behind the wheel with the motor running.

April 11, 2018

  • After an investigation was launched by the RCMP Integrated Child Exploitation Unit regarding pornographic images being uploaded locally, the Creston RCMP conducted an interview to find that a local person’s social media and email had been compromised and the images were uploaded by an unknown party.
  • A report of an attempted break and enter to a residence was found to be the previous tenant looking for belongings.

April 12, 2018

  • Police were called to assist staff at a local business with an unwanted person who would attend the business and ask for promotional items and get angry when he was asked to leave. The suspect is well known to police, and they are currently dealing with the situation.

April 13, 2018

  • Police were called to investigate an unwanted male who attended a local residence late at night requesting to be let in “to party”. The resident did not know who the caller was. Patrols in the area did not locate the male.
  • Police received a number of calls regarding a suspicious person and vehicle in Kitchener and Wynndel. It appeared as if the person was attending properties later at night. Extensive patrols were made, but the vehicle was not located. No further incidents were reported.

April 14, 2018

  • Police were called to investigate a broken window at a local business that occurred during the previous night. Although the window was broken, nothing was taken from the business.
  • Police were called to intervene with a complaint of unwanted romantic advances at a local business. An employee was uncomfortable with an elderly customer’s comments and advances. The customer was spoken to and the situation was resolved.

April 15, 2018

  • Police were approached at a traffic stop in Crawford Bay by a local business owner regarding suspicious abandoned property at his business. The person who brought the property – a 5th wheel trailer and a 20 foot ski boat – was found to be incarcerated in Alberta. Subsequent investigation found that both the trailer and the boat had been stolen from Coledale, Alberta in 2016.
  • Police were called to investigate a disturbance regarding a heated argument. Police intervened between a business owner and an employee who had been let go.

April 16, 2018

  • Police were called to assist with a complaint of harassing communications from an ex partner over social media. The complainant was advised to not allow access or contact to the ex.
  • Police were called to investigate a report of a robbery with a weapon. The victim stated that he met the suspect on a casual dating app. After meeting and spending time together, the suspect asked for a ride home and robbed the victim of money while brandishing a knife. The allegations have not been proven yet, as police continue to investigate. The public is reminded to be vigilant and careful when meeting people on line.
