Residents on Kootenay Lake’s East Shore continue to voice concern over a adventure tourism proposal in the South Purcell Mountains. The Citizens Information Ad-Hoc Group has formed and held a meeting at the Crawford Bay Community Hall last Friday that brought out roughly 70 people. Luanne Armstrong is an author and historian who’s lived on the East Shore for 69 years. She says residents are worried Retallack and the Lower Kootenay Band’s proposed heliskiiing and biking operation would be disruptive to the community and wildlife.
Armstrong says they have many questions about the proposal, however have not received any communication.
Armstrong says residents are reaching out to the Province and are hosting an organized letter writing campaign this Friday, June 29.
The Lower Kootenay Band and Retallack did issue a statement last week. It said they will be reviewing all public comments and then propose amendments after July 15, which is when the public comment period ends.
