Zoning Amendment Bylaw would temporarily prohibit cannabis business

The Town of Creston is moving ahead in developing regulations for commercial retail sales and the production of cannabis. Current Bylaws don’t allow cannabis businesses from operating as they are illegal, however, a new Zoning Amendment Bylaw will prevent any from opening until further public consultation and the new regulations are in place, which could happen after legalization. Mayor Ron Toyota says there were great results from the public consultation process earlier this year.

He says staff are reviewing the responses.

A copy of the proposed Bylaw and background documents will be available at the Town office until July 17 and an informal information meeting is planned for July 11 from 2:00-4:00pm in council chambers. The public hearing will be held on July 17 at 4:00pm.
