The local teachers union says the school district had plenty of warnings about the teacher shortage.
Paul Boscariol, President of the Nelson And District Teachers Association, says they, trusteees and administrators met months ago.
He says there were follow up meetings which included parents but still nothing was done.
Boscariol says the news of the extra hires comes as some relief but ultimately the province is not investing enough money into the school system.
