Take Back the Night Walk

Blaze Dobson is taking a stand for women’s rights… Or a walk rather.
Take Back the Night Walk, raises awareness of domestic violence and sexual abuse against women. For this event, Dobson is walking from Millennium Park and down Canyon street in bright pink high heels on the the 21st of September at 6:00 pm.
Dobson has done similar walks in Cranbrook for the ‘Walk a Mile In Her Shoes’ fundraiser.
Unfortunately this year’s events were cancelled but it did not stop him from volunteering. He explains.
“I’ve been doing this thing, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in Cranbrook. This year it got cancelled because all the volunteers burned out. I took it under my own wing and it caught the attention of Days Inn, but it got cancelled again… so I ended up walking by myself,” Dobson then details how he got the movement running in Creston. “If raised $700.00 in Cranbrook, and I crushed that, I made around $2000.00, then I would walk in Creston for those who didn’t get to see it.”

Dobson’s walks have garnered over a thousand views and the money raised goes directly into support programs for women. When asked about what inspires him to walk-the-walk, Dobson says, “I took my Human Service Worker course years ago. I developed more of a compassion for people, and then I saw this going and I just started doing it. Women have been a heavy influence in my life and, honestly I believe women deserve more respect than they get.”
The $2000.00 raised went to the Women’s Centre in Cranbrook. Funds raised in Creston will go to the Kootenay Community Centre Society for support programs offered there.
When asked about his ability to walk in high heels, Dobson remarks, “Umm… High pain tolerance and patience.”
