Town takes possession of CEC January 2

January 2, 2019 is the date the Town of Creston takes possession of the Creston Education Centre (CEC) and Prince Charles Secondary School lands adjacent to Canyon Street.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay helped facilitate the $500,000 purchase by committing as an anchor tenant. The RDCK offices are moving from the library to the CEC and the Recreation Service will manage the gym and field facilities. For the first five years there will be no contributions through rent towards capital reserves. Funds will be used to make renovations to the building including a new roof, windows and H-VAC system.

Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Steffan Klassen, says the long term goal is for the building to be self-sustaining without being subsidized by the town.

He says the purchase of the CEC will benefit the community by keeping the Early Childhood Education Hub and Learning Centre open.
