Creston council candidates: Jim Elford

Incumbent Jim ElfordĀ hopes to keep his seat on council for the Town of Creston.
He says he’s running in order to complete the work he and his colleagues have already started.
“There’s some projects that I want to see completed. One is out septic handling facility and the other one is economic activity, hotel tax that everybody else has. We’re doing a project right now with [Recycle BC] and possibly composting which is the right thing to do.”
Elford has been a resident in Creston for 39 years. He served as a volunteer firefighter for 21 yearsĀ and as an auxiliary police officerĀ for 10 years, experience he says shows commitment to the town.
Elford also makes reference to the award winning official community plan says he intends on seeing it through. He says he would like to see Creston more walk-able and feature parks, community spaces and playgrounds to attracts tourists and new families alike.
When asked about the Borrowing Referendum, Elford spoke on its purpose. “What we’re trying to do is get a referendum that will approve the borrowing so that we can proceed with the project. We can then proceed with plans on design, materials and all those things. But we first need the money to move forward and that’s what our vote is about. it’s not about what kind of a building it is.”
Creston votes October 20th for not only for a mayor and six councillors but whether or not the borrowing referendum passes in order to proceed with a new fire hall.
