Mayor Candidates: Ron Toyota

Only two days remain until election results are final. Mayor Ron Toyota has invested a lot in getting his campaign.

When he was asked by the mycrestonnow.com news room how he feels about the effort put into this election,  Toyota said he’ll feel much better after the results are in.

Signs, meet-and-greets, flag waving, radio time and ads both online and in print are the primary mediums Toyota used, however his use of social media was not as noticeable as some of the other candidates.

Toyota shares his thoughts on the platform.

“Facebook, social media has become, in my terminology, very simply… It’s become a toxic echo chamber. What that is, is someone will throw an idea or comment out there, and then people will just explode with their own version and comments, and it’s not healthy.”

Toyota also details the efforts he made over the last ten years, communicating with his constituents.

“My office door, for ten years has been very front and centre. I’ve done coffee talks, I’ve been doing the weekly interview, ‘Mayor’s Minute’ on Juice FM. Plus I’ve done the ‘I love Creston’ articles and I believe our town has put out communication, newsletters, all that stuff.”

At the forefront of this election is the new fire hall and the borrowing referendum.

Toyota said he and his council have listened to the community and are prepared to get this project started.

‘There was a lot of public input, there were a lot of meetings and public open houses. We hired a consultant, I mean we have been so detailed in all of this. I think it’s good because once we have a successful referendum, then we can use all this information and i think it’s going to be very healthy for our new fire hall.”

At the Forum hosted on Monday, Toyota iterated that the borrowing referendum is in place so that the next mayor and council, whoever they are, have the funds needed to build a fire hall that fits the needs of the community, including an affordable fire hall.

Creston Votes October 20th.
