Mayor Candidates: Bill Hutchinson

Bill Hutchinson is the only mayoral candidate standing firmly on the No-side of the borrowing referendum.

He says fiscal responsibility is his major concern and that the Town of Creston isn’t taxing the residents fairly and isn’t spending appropriately.

“We’ve gone up 47 positions. You know, as one of the higher spending municipalities in British Columbia and I really think fiscal responsibility at this time, in light of our tax rates, we have to have a serious look at that.”

Hutchinson says he would freeze taxes and introduce zero-based budgeting so that huge surpluses are not created by over-taxation.

Having served as administrator for the Town of Creston for over 26 years, he says he’s equipped with the tools necessary to lead the town towards a path of growth.

When asked by the mycrestonnow.com newsroom how he and his team can attract new millennial families to the valley, he said this.

‘That’s the goal of council, to create an atmosphere, to create a community where people can afford to life here, where young people can afford to find a job and pay their taxes.”

Hutchinson also promised he would visit the question of becoming a District Municipality.

Bill Hutchinson is offering rides for those who may need them to get out and vote. He assured the mycrestonnow.com newsroom that this charitable service has nothing to do with his campaign. He says he’s worried that some might feel less inclined to vote if parking spaces aren’t available at the Creston & District Community Complex as many events are taking place October 20th.

He says people may reach him at 250-428-3494
