Extra resources needed for shooting incident

The relatively small Creston RCMP detachment needed additional support in dealing with Tuesday’s shooting in Wynndel.

That’s one of the reasons why the incident played out for so long.

The South East District Emergency Response Team and negotiator were brought in to make contact with the 52-year old suspect.

He was holed up in his home and the condition of the surrounding property made access difficult.

This caused the closure of highway 3-A in Wynndel near the scene.

Staff Sergeant Darryl Hammond says situations in rural locations can take longer to secure.

He says a handful of residents were asked to leave their homes and motorists were left stranded with no alternate route along highway 3-A for almost 12 hours..

The suspect was arrested and remains in custody.
