Creston community reaches out to aid Kitchener house fire victims

Donations continue to pour in to help Kitchener resident Terrie Lyn Faulkner and her husband, Russel Faulkner,  who lost their home in a devastating fire in the early hours of Friday morning.

At Saturday’s Creston Valley Thunder Cats game, Terrie shared how the community have already jumped in to help.

“When the house burnt, one of my girlfriends put a bucket out in front of the house, Faulkner donation. I went and picked it up last night, from 12:00 to 5:00PM we made $4000 in that container.”

There’s been help getting her husband some new work clothes too.

“We got his work boots out but that’s it. We met up with friends of my husband who’s also a logger. We didn’t pay for anything. Him and his wife said put it on our account.”

Terrie shared the loud event which lead to the total destruction of their home.

“2:30 in the morning, I heard a big boom. Went to the back door and the back deck was already engulfed underneath.”

She said although she is happy to have made it out alive with both her husband and her dog, this event is one of many in a series of tragedies that hit her family in the past year.

“I went back to Ontario for a year and a half to look after my mom. She past away in October. We lost our son at the end of August to a logging truck accident in Cranbrook and now the house burnt to the ground so, that’s strike three. We should be able to win a lottery now or something.”

Donations can be made for the Faulkners online via a Gofundme page.

They did not have house insurance and are currently looking for new home.
