Panhandling bylaw changes next month

Nelson City Council will wait another month before enacting bylaws on panhandling.

It was supposed to pass a 3rd reading of new rules and regulations last night but will now wait to get input from the Nelson committee on homelessness and any agencies.

But Mayor Deb Kozak says there needs to laws stopping aggressive panhandling and not only for business owners and pedestrians.

Kozak says the proposed bylaw is not and never was about banning the practice but about making the streets safe and congenial for all by stipulating where and for how long panhanlders can operate in any given area.
