Energy conservation programs for homes available soon in the RDCK

Residents in the Regional District of Central Kootenay will soon have programs in place to help make homes more energy efficient.

Energy Retrofits Coordinator Carmen Proctor says the program will offer consultations with experts that will look at things like insulation, doors, windows, space and water heating as well as ventilation.

A report on how many gigajoules of energy a home currently uses as well as how much energy can be saved will also be offered.

Proctor says an energy efficiency assistance program will also be made available for low income households.

“If you’re a resident that’s low income then we would introduce you to a program that would supply you with free energy efficient products that would be installed in the home. That would be delivered through Fortis BC but we would connect people to that program.”

She says making a home more energy efficient has cost saving effects as residents will pay for less utilities.
