Kennel cough shuts down dog park

Due to an outbreak of kennel cough, the Town of Creston has closed the dog park until February 4, 2019.

A local veterinarian who shall remain anonymous says the flu-like hacking coughs and sneezes can last up to two weeks.  Rest and gentle exercise is the best option for a dog exhibiting these symptoms. If a dog loses their appetite and begins vomiting, do not hesitate to bring it in for a check up.

Do not, however, bring a sick dog to a kennel or groomer as the virus is contagious even after two weeks of shedding the symptoms.

Because of the many strains of kennel cough, vaccinated dogs may still be susceptible to the virus.

The Town of Creston apologizes for the closure of the dog park, but did so at the discretion of local veterinarians.
