A heart attack claimed the life of a local resident on January the 18th at the Creston and District Community Complex.
The Manager of Recreation Randy Fediuk says the incident occurred just before noon.
“It was a very very immediate response to the person,” Fediuk explained. “From our staff and first responders in the community.”
The complex itself has three Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and staff trained in first aid to deal with emergencies.
“All of our aquatic staff are highly trained in that area and the bulk of all of our maintenance staff and several of our fitness staff. So we have a very good level of training across the complex.”
Fediuk notes that the AEDs which are situated in the lobby near the Sunshine Room and by the washrooms in the Johnny Bucyk Arena are for public use. Another AED is located in the Rotacrest Hall.
“It could be a bystander without training that could open up an AED. They’re intuitive and got a lot of prompts so that a person can help somebody.”
After the incident occurred at the Creston and District Community Complex a decision was made to close the facility to the public.
The victims’ name will remain anonymous for the sake of family and friends.
