RDCK wants province to get involved in home insurance

Local rural politicians are still trying to get the province to at least explore moving into the home insurance game.

Premiums keep going up after the fire underwriters survey suggested higher risks for many rural properties because they’re too far from a fire hall.

Local RDCK Director Andy Davidoff says they want ICBC or the municipal insurance association to get involved because they’d be fairer.

Rural areas dispute the underwriter survey’s distance versus risk guidelines arguing that our volunteer fire departments can respond just as quickly as urban ones in part because there’s less traffic on the roads.
