Skatepark a go – but delayed until thaw

Construction on Creston’s new skate park has been pushed back from mid-March due to snow and a frozen site. New Line Skateparks will begin construction later in the spring, weather depending. According to the Creston and District Community Complex Manager of Recreation, Randy Fediuk, plans for the Community Park project are still in flux due to budgetary issues.

“We’re just looking at the methodologies of construction and seeing where we can reduce. I think a lot of it will be in retaining and land shaping. We’ll probably make some changes there.”

New Line Skateparks is a Canadian company that has built over 50 skate parks in BC alone.

Updated plans will be tied into the new skate park, according to Fediuk.

“Right now we’re just sorting out some of the retaining walls around the skatepark and the stair cases. But the rest of the park, we’re working on where we can reduce or modify the design to fit the budget.”

Fediuk says he estimates that the skate park will be complete before the rest of the project. A wheelchair accessible path with cut through the hill and the skate park will be open for use while the rest of the project sees completion.
