Three so-called affordable housing units in the new Nelson Commons development are now being released to public offering.
The two 1-bedroom ( $200,000) and one 2-bedroom ($276,000) condos are selling at 25% below market value and must be resold at that discount forever more.
The project’s Diedre Lang says they’re not at the cheapest end of the spectrum but they fit along the continuum of what the city sees as affordable.
Lang says the city of Nelson will manage these units and decide who gets to be the first owners.
There is a maximum household income stipulation for potential buyers.
