Tier 4 Midget Hockey Championships underway in Creston

The Creston Valley Minor Hockey Association is hosting the Midget Tier 4 Championships.

The tournament kicked off yesterday at 1:00 p.m  at the Creston and District Community Complex. A three day round robin of games determines which teams will go to the finals on Wednesday.

Along with the Creston Chiefs, players and families from 100 Mile House, Elk Valley, Summerland and Invermere have come to partake in the tournament.

Creston Valley Minor Hockey President Chad Luke says it’s a great opportunity to showcase not only the players, but the town as well.

“We’re Vibrant. We have lots to offer. We take pride in hosting our friends from out of the Creston area,” Luke shares his excitement. “We’ve had teams all the way over from Airdrie, we had a team come all the way from Edmonton this year to play in one of our local tournaments. ”

The parents of the players are being taken care of as well.

“Ulrike Sliworsky and Dale Jellis have gone and done numerous hours with the parenting group to really showcase what Creston is. Who Creston is, who we are and why we’re happy to be hosting such an event like these championships.”

Luke says he feels humbled to have been given the opportunity to dedicate two thirds of his life both playing and coaching in Creston, starting when he was five years old.
