Full house in council chambers for CBT grant dispersal

ver 40 people showed up to Council Chambers in Creston on April 16.
This was due to the public distribution of Columbia Basin Trust grant money by the Mayor and Council. Of the total request of $81,782 for 32 projects that fall under the Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Program, the Town had $76,149 to hand out.
Councilor Jen Comer says each councilor had a say in who gets what.
“We use a weighted averaging process where each puts in their allocation request and it is all averaged out in the end so the group receives the average of what all of council has individually decided.”
Comer says the gap between the total ask versus money available was small this year resulting in most programs being nearly fully funded.
The following amounts are a recommendation to the Regional District of Central Kootenay Board, and the final decision pends on their May 16 Board meeting.
