Man Killed in Canoe Accident on Moyie Lake

The young man that died in Tuesday’s canoeing accident on Moyie Lake has been identified as Andrew Milner of the University of Calgary.

A guard for the Dinos Men’s Basketball team, the Antigonish, Nova Scotia native was a Kinesiology student at the University.

He was 19 years old.

“Andrew was an outstanding student and a national champion on the basketball floor, but most importantly he was a tremendous young man, and his loss will be felt deeply by all members of the Dinos community,” said the University of Calgary. “We offer our sincere condolences to the Milner family and the community of Antigonish, N.S., and to everyone who knew Andrew.”

Milner’s body was found on Wednesday by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team despite efforts by RCMP, Search and Rescue, and the RCMP Police Dog Service on Tuesday.

Milner and his Dinos teammate were canoeing on Moyie Lake Tuesday morning when their canoe capsized, leading to the tragic accident and emergency response.

RCMP and the BC Coroner’s Service are continuing to investigate the incident.
