Creston to move forward with bulk rezoning

The Town of Creston will have its hands full with several re-zoning applications, including a bulk re-zoning amendment for the sake of housekeeping.

Amendments include removing M-1 Light Industrial Zones in the downtown core, removing Commercial Tourists Zones from residential areas and working closely with other properties that currently do not work within appropriate development permit areas.

Keeping in line with the Town’s Official Community Plan, Municipal Services Coordinator Joel Comer wants to amend the lands use designation on Canyon Street between 16th and 20th avenues.

“So right now, it’s Highway Service Commercial as far as land-use designation goes. But following the review of that it may be better to be General – Commercial, more fitting with the downtown core.”

More than 20 properties are part of the bulk-rezoning amendment process, which was initiated by the Town. According to council, having the Town reach out instead means each owner will not have to undergo the longer and pricier route of having to eventually apply for re-zoning themselves.

For more details on which properties will be affected, follow this link and skip down to page 25 of the 39 page document.
