Creston Volunteers clear backcountry site

A major Clean up effort was executed this week.

The Creston-Backcountry Clean up Crew cleared the Leadville backcountry site north east of Creston.  However, organizer Trish Drinke made sure to do it right.

“There could have been legal ramifications if we had just went in and started getting rid of stuff and everything,” Drinkle explains. “We had to go out with a natural resource officer a couple times. We had to make a 30 day posting of a notice and when that 30 days ran up, that was actually thanksgiving, the site was released and we were able to start prepping for clean up.”

Locals may now enjoy the site which is roughly 8.5 km up from Highway 3 on the Leadville Creek forest service road. Drinkle recommends bringing a bag just in case a few items of trash were missed, contributing to the cause.

“Now that we’ve actually executed this clean up, we have such a wonderful volunteer base of people who are willing just to get out there and clean up that backcountry. We’ll use the Facebook group as a way to communicate to those eager volunteers and get some stuff happening.”

Drinkle says she already has another site in mind and is waiting for approval from the Department of Natural Resources and funding from Rec Sites and Trails.
