Creston’s “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” to support Kootenai Community Centre

On June 22 men will don women’s shoes and march in support of the international “Walk-A-Mile In Her Shoes” initiative.

AM Event Coordination is teaming up with Save-On-Foods and the Kootenai Community Centre Society to raise awareness about violence against women.

“They walk a mile and take pledges from other people, collect donations,” Executive Director at the Kootenai Community Centre Laura Dodman details the event. “Shoes are provided. All the proceeds of these collections and donations will come to the Kootenai Community Centre to help with our programming, for the safe home and all the outreach services we provide.”

Canyon street will be blocked off from 10th Avenue to 16th Avenue for the march on June 22, from 12:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m. A gala will be held at 6:00 p.m the same day.

“We’re hoping it will be our 1st Annual Gala to raise even more funds for the safe homes here, which will include prizes for the Walk A Mile.” Dodman explains. “The Gala is specific to Kootenai Community Centre and Casey’s [Community House] has graciously sponsored some of our activities there.”

Dodman says the goal is to raise anywhere in between $5000 to $8000 for both events.
