Nelson police have had a report of a cougar sighting on a residential street.
It was on 7th Street, Fairview Tuesday evening around 9pm.
The wild cat was headed in the direction of Lakeside Park.
Police say if you encounter a cougar that does not back off do not turn your back or run away as this may trigger an attack instinct in the animal.

Stand your ground, raise your voice and speak firmly.
Raise your arms to make yourself look larger, clap your hands, and throw something you might have in your hands.
Any cougar sightings should be reported to the conservation rap line or NPD.
