Walk A Mile In Her Shoes kicks off on Saturday

This year’s Walk a Mile in Her shoes event will be the biggest one yet.

Men will walk along Canyon Street on Saturday in high heeled shoes to raise awareness on violence against women. The $20 registration fee goes towards support programs for women at risk offered by the Kootenay Community Centre Society. According to AM Event Coordination’s Amanda Murray: No shoes? No Problem!

“I happen to have 52 pairs of men’s sizes high heeled shoes. Men’s sizes 8 to 16 currently. i did have a walker who does not fit men’s sizes 8 to 16 so happened to go to our local Gleaners and find him a pair in his own size.”

Murray says over 20 men already pre-registered, including Lower Kootenay Band Chief Jason Louie and members of Creston Fire Rescue. More people may register on site at Spirit Square around 12:30 pm. The march will begin at 1:15 pm.
