Battle of the Bands Returns to Creston

15 Bands. 4 Locations. Artists from all over the Kootenays.

The Battle of the Bands returns to Creston.

The event began long ago when Mayor Ron Toyota’s Father, Tak Toyota hosted Battle of the Bands during Blossom Festival.

“He used to gather all the teenagers from all over the Kootenays and even into the States.” Explains Stay Live Productions Manager Velle Huscroft Weitman. ” When I was Growing up, I used to hear stories about Battle of the Bands because my dad was a winner in 1966, with the Ambassadors.”

She says she wanted to bring back a platform to allow artists and bands to express themselves, be creative and offer original music. After 51 long years, artists all the way from Christina Lake to Fernie will test their mettle.

“You know, you should hear these guys from Fernie. Just unbelievable. they’re called the Bored of Directors. There’s this other band called White Queen from Slocan, and then I have a bunch of local bands.”

Locals will have to barhop between The Venue in Erickson and Jimmy’s and Casey’s in Creston. Starting on Friday at 7:30, each venue will have 5 bands play before a panel of judges. Doors are by donation. On Saturday the top 9 bands will perform at Millennium park at 6:00 for the final battle.
