Creston Valley fire departments extend opportunity for women to join their ranks

Creston Fire rescue, and neighbouring departments are holding a Creston Valley Fire Female Recruit Training Weekend.

Happening the weekend of October 11-13 the event is open to all female residents of the Creston Valley who are 16 years of age or older.

A total of 8 females will be accepted into the training weekend. The event is free and the participants are under no obligation to join the fire departments, however the opportunity will be there.

“Hopefully over the course of the weekend we can have those discussions with them. See if they’re interested in becoming part of one of the three departments, depending on where they live in the valley. Go through an application process and get started on the official training that all firefighters need in the province.”

Riel says he’s proud of the several women firefighters that have gone through and currently fill key roles in the valley. Creston recently saw 3 female work experience firefighters, the most so far, and they will also be participating in supervising the event.

All required equipment and transportation will be provided. Spots are limited (8). To apply or for more information, contact the Town of Creston or Creston Fire Rescue, or call 250-428-2214. Application deadline is Oct 3 at 4:00 pm.
