Creston Valley Thunder Cats Undefeated in first 4 games

Two back to back victories over the weekend extends the Creston Valley Thunder cats winning streak to four.

They are tied with the Kimberley Dynamiters for 1st place in the KIJHL. But where they really shine is their score differential (+14), having allowed 8 goals versus scoring 22.

Logan Berggren led the Thunder Cats with two goals and an assist (2G, 1A) on Friday, defeating Columbia Valley 5 – 3. Ryan O’Laney stopped 30 of 33 shots for his third straight win.  His save percentage is .943 so far this season.

It was another 5-3 on win Saturday despite being vastly out-shot by the Fernie Ghostriders according to Thunder Cat veteran Andrew Clark.

“It was definitely a hard barn to play in, they kinda, you know,  took it to us there that game. They out-shot us about 60 to about 30 there. Sylvin stood on his head there for us, so I think will kinda stole one there.”

18 year old rookie goaltender Sylvin Menard kept a .942 save percentage, only allowing 3 goals on 49 shots and plenty of grade-A chances.

Thunder Cat defense and Former Ghostrider Josh Dalquist spoke with play by play announcer Eric Blow, post game.

“I was a little bit nervous. Little nerve wracking there, I’m used to playing for them but now I play against them but it felt good to come out with a win.”

On how his game fits within the Thunder Cats and their system, “I bring a lot of diversity. I can play defense but I also get a lot of shots on net.”

Dalquist is 5th in the league with 9 points (2G, 7A). Team Captain Carson Small is only 1 point behind from claiming the top spot with 10 points (5G, 5A).

Though the team wont play on home ice until October 12, next game on the road is in Kamloops on Friday.
