Skate park completion: 1 step closer to full access

Creston has a brand new skate park, right in the the middle of an active construction site.

Once there is safe access to the park’s features, the public will be allowed to use them.

New Line Skate Parks Inc. completed their portion of the multi purpose Community Park and are moving on to their next project. Meanwhile, residents are asked to respect the fencing surrounding the active construction site for safety and to allow further construction to move forward efficiently.

Border Holdings Ltd. will lead construction of the remaining features surrounding the skate park  through the fall. According to RDCK’s media release, the park will see substantial completion in November.

The release states:

The majority of the site excavation, grading and utilities installation has been completed and now the feature elements of the park will start taking shape throughout the site. In addition to the 10,000 sq. ft. multipurpose skate park, work has been taking place on the playground area with the construction of the hill slide, landscaping and installation of playground equipment. Curbing for the parking lot and driveway has been installed along with light standard bases and paving has begun on the pickle ball courts and pathway system.

“It is really exciting to see all the work on the site taking place and the park coming to life before our eyes,” said Tanya Wall, Chair of the Creston Valley Services Committee and Director of RDCK Area B. “The park will be an active dynamic outdoor space that will bring a wide variety of people to enjoy and recreate together in the same area.”

The entire project is fully funded. The RDCK received $3.1 million from the Federal Government’s Gas Tax Fund, administered by the Union of BC Municipalities as well as $150,000 from the Columbia Basin Trust through their Recreational Infrastructure Program.
